If a person desires a relationship with Lord Jesus as His disciple, he or she can be sure He wants a relationship with them. For those who seek to be a disciple of the Lord, we offer the following information:

Once a person has given themselves in commitment as His disciple, he or she should pray for Lord Jesus to baptize them in the Holy Spirit. This is the empowerment from Him that will enable a person to live and walk as a disciple. When a person prays for this empowerment, he or she should ask Lord Jesus to provide confirmation through the manifestation of the Holy Spirit. In the New Testament, this empowerment was accompanied by speaking in tongues and/or prophesying.

Go to the Lord in prayer with the understanding He desires everyone to follow Him as a disciple. This means one should totally surrender to Him as Lord. Everything we are must be given to Him. He is to be Lord of our lives completely as we are to be His servants. It is not only just asking forgiveness for the sins we may have committed or in that which we may be currently involved but to cease and desist from being our own gods. We belong to Him as He paid the ultimate price by giving His life for us that we may be placed in right standing with Him. This is what is described in the scriptures as the “death of the old man”. Once a person makes this commitment to Him, he or she should seek to be baptized in water in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This act is the physical demonstration of the spiritual reality one makes to Him as Lord.

It is the responsibility of every person who follows the Lord to seek Him diligently. Studying the scriptures is vital to continuing growth in the knowledge and character of Him. It is a good idea to maintain a journal which can be used to compile discoveries through the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Focusing on Lord Jesus, praying with understanding and with our spirit (praying in tongues), and being ready to hear His voice at all times is vital to the life of the relationship between the Lord and His followers. Finding other disciples with whom to fellowship and worship is always important.
